Unlike the Biotechnique 'standard' laser epilators (SLD15, 30, 50, 80 and 100 units) the SDL 'C' line is has a specially designed BK7 cool tip condenser which is designed to be in contact with the skin. This allows for far greater absorption and penetration of the laser energy to the desired tissues. With surface laser epilation (again, the standard SDL line) a significant percentage of the laser energy simply bounces off the skin or is absorbed by the hair itself. This creates quite an impressive effect as the laser 'shaves' the skin as it treats the follicles below, however, of 180jcm2/second of energy delivered this way, only about 120jcm2 will pass through the skin. The Standard Diode Laser System is specifically designed to deliver highly concentrated photon energy directly through the skin, thereby targeting hair follicle melanocytes or photo-reactive dyes. This system has a beam diameter twice that of the SDL15, with the same intensity.
Each power pulse has an effective treatment area of 2cm wide and feels like a brief pinch. Very few patients would describe the procedure as 'painful'.
For those few individuals who have a high degree of neural sensitivity, the use of a mild topical anesthetic is encouraged.
